Calculation In general use power 120-150 W/m2 (9,3 - 13,9 W/sq.ft.)
Controls Use a thermostat with a floor sensor. Using a simple power regulator is also possible.
Heating cable layout The heating cable is for example installed on chicken wire or as described above. When using a twin conductor cable then end seal should be place in a dry zone of the floor. Don't let the cable be in direct contact with pipes or other installations in the floor. The chicken wire and/or reinforcement grid must be connected to the electrical earth of the building along with electrically exposed parts as gully gratings.
The gully grating should be placed so the water will flow to it (lowest part of the floor). Also see the separate section on casting.
Storage heating These systems require 150 - 200 W/m2 (14 - 18.5 W/sq. ft). These systems require that the heating cables are embedded in a concrete floor construction of high thermal mass. Often an approx. 100-mm (4") concrete slab is laid on top of a high-density insulation, and the cables are installed on top of the slab and covered with an approx. 50-mm (2") screed.
